What is it
It is a hole, or abnormal communication between two upper chambers of
the heart called atria.
Why is it done?
The abnormal communication leads to mixing of oxygenated and oxygen-poor
blood leading to various complications, which can be saved by timely repair.
How is it done?
It is now possible to close the opening, in suitable cases with Amplatzer
device that is placed via the vein of leg, without the need of surgery
When is it done?
When the child is 3-4 yrs of age

Like for any Cath lab procedure, complete work-up is required.
After
The patient needs to take Aspirin once a day, orally for 6 months. Other
than this, patient can continue his normal daily activities.
