Cardiology deals with the study of heart. While advances
in the filed of Cardiology have made it possible that
the study of heart can begin even before the baby is
born ( Foetal Echocardiography), present day adult cardiology
comprises of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and
rehabilitative divisions to provide comprehensive cardiac
care. Apart from divisions of Pediatric and Preventive
and Rehabilitative Cardiology, which function independently,
Cardiology has three main functional units:
NON-INVASIVE CARDIOLOGY
Advanced procedures of diagnosis are carried out at
the two Heart Stations in the institute. The equipment
includes eight treadmills, 12(5500) 2-D Colour Doppler
Echocardiography machines, Holter monitoring systems,
ambulatory blood pressure monitoring equipment, two
Pulmonary Function Labs and a system for studying
signal-averaged electrocardiograms to predict cardiac
arrhythmia.
The use of this full range of equipment and tests
ensures that a complete picture emerges before
preventive and curative measures are worked out.
The institute makes a constant effort to add the
latest technology to its infrastructure. It acquired the
first and only 3-D echocardiography machine in India.
It regularly applies the techniques of multiplane
Transesophageal Echocardiography, Stress
Echocardiography, on-line acoustic quantification and
colour-kinesis for patients with Ischemic heart disease,
which is the most important cardiac illness.
INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY
Interventional Cardiology deals with
identifying and clearing the blockages
in coronary blood vessels. This
involves acquiring knowledge about
the block(via an invasive diagnostic
procedure called Angiography) and
removing them (via interventional
procedures of Angioplasty or Stenting).
Three high-resolution Cardiac Catheterization
labs are operational here, performing
a full range of invasive procedures
like :
- Coronary, Carotid and Renal Angiography.
- Coronary and Peripheral Angiography.
- Stenting.
- Balloon Mitral, Aortic and Pulmonary
Valvuloplasty.
Rotational and Directional
Antherectomy (Rotablator).
This Institute is
among the few in Asia to have the
facility of evaluating coronary arteries
by Angiography and Intravascular Ultrasound.
A year and a half ago two more
front-line technologies for evaluation of blocked
arteries, Thrombectomy (sucking out of fresh clots from
the coronary artery) and the Doppler "flo" wire were
introduced.
ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY
Electrophysiology deals with the study
of electrical system of heart and the problem associated
with it. The Electrophysiology study
helps in identifying rhythm
disturbances and rectifying the problem either by
pacemaker/ICD implantation or ablation of
aberrant pathways.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
- Angiography
- Electrophysiology (EPS)
- Tilt Table Test
- Trans Telephonic ECG Monitoring
- Syncope Evaluation
- Holter Monitoring
- Angioplasty & stenting
- PTCA and stenting
- Rotablator
- Atherectomy
- Non-surgical repair of defects
in the heart

2. Congenital defects (ASD, VSD,
PDA)
3. Vascular (Aneurysm, Carotid arteries)
- Non surgical repair of vascular
defects (aorta/ arteries/ veins)
- RFA
- Permanent Pacemaker Implantation
- ICD
